12:00 Exercise on Preparedness for Mass Gatherings
This workshop is conducted in an innovative format, whereby the workshop leader divides the audience into a number of small groups, to allow maximum interaction. Various settings will be described by the workshop leader to allow each group to brainstorm the strategies needed in order to tackle the “challenges” in relation to the suggested scenario.
The workshop leader will then review the various strategies and add his “disaster inputs” during a specific mass gathering.
Key issues addressed:
- An introduction to the need for preparedness for mass gatherings
- Various scenarios and the associated challenges
- Strategies to overcome these challenges
- Lessons learnt from international case studies

12:00 Workshop A: Battlefield Advanced Trauma Life Support (BATLS)
The interactive workshop will begin with an introduction to the salient points of
BATLS, including:
- The principals of Battlefield Advanced Trauma Life Support
- Breaking down the levels of care that are given as dependant on the environment
Workshop attendees will then be taken through a series of scenario-based
training exercises. For each particular level of care, delegates will understand
the expectations of what needs to be achieved and will take part in interactive
activities to embed this knowledge.
The workshop will then conclude with lessons learned from real-life case
examples and a discussion about the necessary BATLS equipment.

16:00 Workshop B:
Developing the Doctrine for Military Medicine in Both In-Theater and Humanitarian Operations
This workshop will discuss the doctrine for drafting the requirements for military medicine in both in-theater as well as humanitarian operations. It highlights the case studies in Europe, Asia and Middle East where the military healthcare practitioners map out their requirements and evaluates the results achieved.
Key issues addressed:
- Defining the requirements and parameters for military medicine and healthcare infrastructure
- Understanding how clarity within visions and goals help to drive results: a comparative analysis on the various case studies
- Developing the performance metrics to measure the effectiveness
